RE: Winding River Resort

We've stayed there for many years in a row now. Will be back there again in late June. It is a perfect family campground, especially if they like horses and other barnyard animals. We had a bull moose in the campground every day last year as well as a cow/calf moose that Wes, the owner says has given birth in the same campsite every year for the last 4 years. The only drawback is that the Pine Bark Beetle has infested the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park and most of the trees are either dead or dying. Here is a link to a slide show that has several shots at Winding River. RMNP

RE: Fairplay, Co C.G.?

We stayed at Western Inn/RV Park in 2001. Its a gravel parking lot behind a motel with full hookups. No Frills for sure but it made a nice base camp while we were summiting the area 14ers. The shower house was on the end of the motel building and was very clean. It was the only campground in area that I know of.

Manor RV Park Estes Park CO

I'd appreiciate any honest opinions about Manor RV Park in Estes Park. We've stayed at almost all of the RV parks in Estes over the last 16 years but not this one yet. Our favorite campground is doing some expansion work this year so a most of their full hookup sites are unavailable. So, alas, we have to find somewhere else to stay this year. Don't want the KOA because of its location. Jellystone is too far away from town and you couldn't pay me to stay at Mary's Lake. That only leaves Manor, Spruce Lake and Elk Meadow, the latter two don't appeal to me but I guess I'd stay there as a last resort. Thanks

RE: Rocky Mountain National Park - Late August-September?

I have lived in Estes Park for the last 27 years and work in the tourist industry. Thunder Mountain- I just read your profile. Are you the Jack Melton who along with Lulabeth Melton published the book about Jack Moomaw? One of my favorite books about RMNP! If so I'd love to meet you next time I'm in Estes.

RE: Rocky Mountain National Park - Late August-September?

We vacation in/around RMNP every August. If you don't have reservations months in advace you will have problems finding a decent site anywhere in the Estes Park area. We usually make our reservations in December or January. September should be easier to get a spot as schools are back in session but it is also the start of the fall color change and the elk rut, both which bring in lots more visitors.
